The valleys

VALLE STURA
The Stura Valley, set between the rocky mountains that separate the Maritime Alps of the Cozie, extends for over 60km - from the 636 m of Borgo San Dalmazzo to the 1996 m of Colle della Maddalena - on a territory that includes 14 municipalities. The wide valley borders to the west and south with the French valleys of Ubayette and A Tinée, to the north with the Maira and Grana valleys, while it divides a stretch of waterway with the Gesso valley. Cross-country skiing is practiced thanks also to the vast echo of the international successes of the local champion Stefania Belmondo.
VERMENAGNA VALLEY
ROCCAVIONE
About 10 km from Cuneo, on the Colle di Tenda state road 20, stands the town of Roccavione, in a flat area located at the meeting point of the Gesso and Vermenagna valleys. Characteristic of the town is the rock of San Sudario, the last offshoot of the dividing chain of the valleys. Thick chestnut woods, rich in mushrooms, frame the town upstream, while downstream fields and meadows segregate towards the banks of the Gesso and Vermenagna streams

VERNANTE
Scenes from the story of Pinocchio are painted on the walls of the houses in Vernante. And it is in this quiet village that he devoted himself to drawing. Upon his death, his wife offered his works to the Proloco, where they are still exhibited today. Different types of "dedications" are present in the town such as the school that bears his name, his artistic tomb in the gardens guarded by Pinocchio. He was called the Uncle of Pinocchio. There are 90 murals in the town designed by Carlet and Cavallera.
